Office perks can only go so far in keeping employees happy, engaged, and productive. According to research, remote workers are outperforming their in-office colleagues.

Harvard Business Review study reported that the number of people who said they couldn’t concentrate at their desk has increased by 16 percent since 2008. And while open workplaces have often been praised for fostering more collaborative environments, the number of workers who say they do not have access to quiet places to do focused work is up by 13 percent.

1. Productivity
The workplace — especially those filled with perks like beer taps and ping pong tables — are laden with distractions. According to a nationwide survey, 86 percent of respondents said that working alone allows them to hit maximum productivity.

2. Teamwork
Remote workers are more likely to make an effort to communicate with their colleagues, which leads to more collaboration and camaraderie. And video chats have certainly helped to keep the lines of communication open. A global study of more than 24,000 employees found that 92 percent of workers say the video collaboration actually improves their teamwork.
